Pottery Sessions
Messy fun for all the family (6 years upwards)
BOOKING ESSENTIAL
Pottery Classes for Children and Adults
Our pottery classes are run for groups or individually for both children and adults, in fact, for all the family.
Pottery classes are kept small, 8 is the maximum number.
Old clothes are advisable but T- shirts, which can act as cover-alls, are available.
Warm clothes in the winter months are a necessity.
Children over 6 years old get the maximum benefit from making pots, although younger ones can also join in.
There is no upper age limit on learning how to make pots!
Team building sessions are also available. Get to know your colleagues as they make a pot on the wheel or have fun hand building with clay. Our setting allows for a relaxed visit, take a walk along the local footpaths, share a hot drink, enjoy the peaceful countryside. Once the pots are fired they can take pride of place in the office!!
Hand Building
Budding potters can choose what they make while being guided to discover the different pottery techniques. Clay can be rolled out flat and then
laid in a mould ready to decorate; or the flat clay can be decorated as a sign or tile with raised lettering or decoration.
The rolled clay can also be
made into a vase or mug. Pinch pots turn into all manner of creatures, faces etc., or there is the coil pot technique.

There is usually time to put some colour decoration on the creations. The pots are fired and glazed once they are dry. They are ready to collect in about 3 - 4weeks.
Potter's Wheel
Angela also teaches how to make pots on the potter's wheel. The pottery has three wheels, two electric and a kick wheel. Throwing a pot on the
wheel needs a fair amount of strength, it is therefore suggested that children are over 10 years old .
Making pots on the wheel involves various stages. The pot needs to dry between each stage. The first lesson is spent mastering centring the
clay and forming the clay into a pot. If a second session is possible, the semi dried pot is turned upside down and excess clay is cut away.
A handle and decoration can then be applied as required.
( If only one session is applicable, the pots can be finished off for you. There is a small charge for this.)
The emphasis is on having fun, getting mucky and not to have to worry about it.
